Jamil Barakat: A One Man Army

by: The Source MMA

“Loved by all and feared by most of his opponents.”

Jamil Barakat is for sure one of the most charismatic and interesting people that have ever stepped inside our Dojo. Loved by all and feared by most of his opponents, Jamil is by far one of the best heavy weights that flourished lately in our kingdom. A gentle giant most of the time, Jamil has proven that he can flip into a one man army in an instant.

Why is he a one man army?

First let’s put it this way: Jamil is built like a tank and has amazing speed, strength and stamina for his size. To exemplify this warrior’s composition, it is like having the speed of a Mustang on an 18-wheeler truck with a huge gas tank. His specs are just unique. He weighs over 120 kg and moves like a lightweight. He can bench press fighters that are close to hundred kilos with one arm! And he’s nicknamed “Jimbo”!

Second, Jamil has no fear. No opponent is big enough or strong enough to scare him. Jamil usually fights on his weight class and in the absolute weight class (open weight) on the same day.

Third, due to his thirst for competition, Jamil travels in search of tournaments and most of the times he does it on his own; he travels without his coaches or his teammates, entering competitions where he is the only representative of his dojo and sometimes of Jordan. Nevertheless, he never failed to bring a medal back home, which is a big accomplishment. He competed 8 times bringing 8 medals: 1 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.

Fourth, Jamil is not sponsored by anyone so he travels on a tight budget, totally self-financed and he still competes with honor in the name of his dojo and his country.

Jamil, like all good soldiers, is loyal to his team, coaches and dojo. He carries the name of our school with pride and raises our flag in glory every single time.

Commitment is an understatement, Jamil had a knee surgery last year and, after a few months only, he came back to training and competed right after that in the European BJJ tournament also bringing us a medal.

He is one of a kind and we are proud and happy to have him as part of The Source MMA family. Jimbo is for sure a descendent of great warriors. It is part of his DNA to fight and win; I truly believe that when the Islamic empire conquered most of the world, it was guys like Jamil that were on the front line of our troops.

To complete the cycle of the warrior, Jamil is currently training hard to compete in MMA. Soon we will see this fighter in the cage doing what he does best: FIGHTING! Those who know Jamil are for sure looking forward to seeing him in the Cage!
